MARIA O' MALUHIA FRATERNITY

Prayer to Mother of God, Queen of Maluhia

O Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Maluhia (Peace), grant us your Son's peace.
Fill hearts with love and inspire people to live in a way that promotes peace and tranquility.
Maluhia (Peace) in hearts, Maluhia (Peace) in homes, Maluhia (Peace) in the world.
Through your intercession, may people find solace in challenging times and work towards a more peaceful world.

Fraternity Namesake

  • Maria: This is the Hawaiian form of the name Maria, which is also associated with Mary.
  • 'O: This word is a possessive particle in Hawaiian, indicating possession.
  • Maluhia: This Hawaiian word means "peace, quiet, security, tranquility, serenity". It can also refer to a "calm atmosphere".

Therefore, "Maria 'O Maluhia" is a title that signifies Our Lady, or Mary, of Peace. This title is used in Hawaii, for example, by the Secular Franciscan Order on Maui, who gather at Maria Lanakila Church in Lahaina or Christ the King Church in Kahului. The title "Our Lady of Peace" has historical roots in the 16th century and is celebrated in the United States on January 24th.
